  John Ludwig Hacker grew up in Detroit, Michigan and had a dream of someday becoming a great boat designer. John Hacker spent  his spare time after school in local boat shops learning about them. He also spent time taking correspondence courses learning drafting, mechanical engineering, and yacht design.
 
During his teen years it has been said that John Hacker built a boat a year. He also became interested in gasoline engines in his early 20's when he patronize the same machine shop as Henry Ford and they became friends.
 
In 1920 John Hacker incorporated  the Hacker Boat Company and became its president. According to the annual report of 1921 the Hacker Boat Company , Detroit, MI., had a location in Detroit, MI and Mt. Clemens, MI. with Assets totaling $51,785.56. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
In May of 1925 John Hacker and William Fremann formed a new corporation in Detroit, Michigan, called Hacker and Fremann Inc. The nature and kind of business was brokerage, design and build.
